Potion Brewing

I had to work on older paper this week because I forgot to cut some sheets of newer paper. Aside from the fact that the texture of this paper doesn't work well with granulating pigments, the sizing also starts to get old. Because of that, there are some of the paper fiber coming through the paint and the washes wouldn't go smoothly. But at least the steam looks good, I really wanted to make a more graphic element like that and it works pretty well.

Potion Brewing

"In the middle
Of a sleepless night,
Steps echo in the kitchen
With the weight
Of an undying exhaustion.
Dried leaves, flowers and roots
Thrown in the smallest cauldron
And scalding water poured over
Let an enticingly fragrant steam
Fly out and fill the air.
Perhaps with this potion,
Sleep will find this tired witch
And give them a well deserved rest."
